What would you like your relationship with stress to look like? Stress. It has the power to serve us or debilitate us. Stress can impact us physically, emotionally, and mentally. It is a normal response when change occurs, we are overloaded with tasks, our demands exceed our perceived resources, etc. We often focus on stress as a negative or unpleasant experience. Have you heard of eustress? It means beneficial stress!
Eustress is largely dependent on how you perceive the stressor. For example, potential stressors that may be perceived/responded to more positively, may include buying a home, having a child, holiday seasons, receiving a promotion, a first date, etc.
If you’re currently experiencing stress and are engaging in or searching out ways to reduce it, I encourage you to consider what you would like your relationship with stress to look like? If you are in the midst of change or have a lot of tasks or demands, unfortunately “gone” may not be realistic.
Maybe you’re okay with the relationship, maybe you want it to look slightly or drastically different. How would you like to relate differently with stress? If you related differently with stress what would you notice? When you approach stress management without having clarity of what the desired outcome is... How do you know what you are working towards? How do you measure progress? Clarifying your goals and intentions can help you in achieving your desired outcome.
